STEP 1: Effleurage to Warm the Scalp

Begin by warming and relaxing the entire scalp. (Reference: What is Effleurage?)
Encircle the head with both hands: Gently place your palms around the head to lightly cover it.
This helps warm the client’s head and prepare them to receive the massage.
Use the pads of your fingers: With the fingertips, gently stroke from the hairline toward the crown and back of the head. Avoid strong pressure—keep the motion soft and smooth.
STEP 2: Petrissage to Loosen Scalp Tension

The scalp contains many muscles and fascial tissues.
By carefully loosening these areas, blood circulation improves and stiffness is relieved. (Reference: What is Petrissage?)
Use the pads of your fingers to gently grasp small portions of the scalp and lift them as you knead.
Massage evenly across the entire scalp, shifting positions gradually.
Make small circles: With both hands, use the fingertips to move in small circular motions across the scalp. Pay special attention to the temples, above the ears, and the crown.
STEP 3: Shiatsu to Stimulate Pressure Points
During head massage, we focus on stimulating specific acupressure points located on the scalp.
This approach enhances relaxation and overall effectiveness. At Tsubaki, we primarily focus on the following points:
- Hyakue (Baihui): Located at the crown of the head. Press vertically using the fingertips with comfortable pressure. Known to help relieve headaches, insomnia, and autonomic imbalance.
- Tenchu (Tianzhu): Situated at the base of the neck, just outside the thick muscles along the hairline. Use the thumbs to apply gentle inward pressure. Effective for shoulder stiffness, eye strain, and neck pain.
- Fuchi (Fengchi): Found in the hollows behind the ears, outside the Tenchu points. Press slowly with the thumbs. Believed to help with headaches, dizziness, and early cold symptoms.
